Some great finds

20 04 2009

I went to a local thrift shop that I always go to, and sure enough I find a whole set of Pyrex mixing bowls from the 50′s in Americana pattern!

I was so excited, and even more excited about the fact they were half off, and the whole set cost only $15.00.

It has been an extremly long time since I posted again- as I was going to give up on blogging and then I kinda got some inspiration and just decided that I still want to keep doing it.

I will try and update as much as I possibly can as far as what has gone on over the last while!

Ethan has turned three, as has our beautiful niece Tate, and tomorrow we go to Kingston to have a birthday with my best friend’s children as her son is turning five.

I also have to go update and add pics from both b-day parties from the past, the one from the future and Christmas as well as Easter!!!

Glad to be back. I will also update thrifting finds tomorrow and post some good photographs ’cause as one can imagine, I have accumulated more stuff I don’t need, maybe need, that I really need, and cannot wait to show it off!

Signing off till tomorrow.

Peace, Kerry

More Bob

6 04 2008

So I happened to be in the downtown Cobourg area and stopped into beyond the blue box, which is a depo that accepts then sells used goods. Everything ends up at this place, anything ranging from clothing to electronics, to cameras, to baby stuff.

I could not believe my eyes when I just about to exit the store, there were a pair of work boots sticking out from a very large pile of stuffed animals. I recognized these work boots. So I geta little closer so I could see even better and there he was a two and a half foot Bob the Builder, instantly I feel like a great mommy, and I just knew that very soon I’d be going home to greet my husband and the happiest kid in Canada, when he saw what mommy has come home with!

Sure enough I peek around the corner with Bob’s head and the greatest squeel in the whole world can be heard filling up the apartment. “BOB!!!!!!!!!!” He was oh so happy! He was jumping all around, screaming in delight, making me just feel the best mommy ever who has absolutely no problem at all conquering the world for my little guy! If only I could feel this way all the time, unfortunately it takes more than Bob the builder to make my boss as happy as that.

Ethan watched his movies with Bob, ate his supper, played…then eventually was off to bed with his new bestest friend ever!!!

Oh yeah…..and the price for making my sons day, week, no year a whopping ten cents, yep you heard that right ten cents! I love thrifting.

A Little Antiquing

2 04 2008

I went to a couple places in hopes of a perfect vintage find, was I ever impressed, I found the most beautiful early Angelo Rossi of Fenton Amberina pitcher, it is the most beautiful thing I have bought in a really long time, and I will not even tell you what I paid for it, because I really felt like th elady in the Ikea commercial who is like “honey start the car…start the car”; because she felt like she was stealing. That is exactly how I felt leaving this little midtown mall in a strip mall locally.

You may also be wondering about that beautiful little tea cup and saucer, I got that at a second hand store that very same day, the store is called The Humane  Society thrift shop and you will never guess how they charged, they weighed it, I paid ten cents for each piece, the cup is a calcalough fine china piece and it’s print is vintage so it is not in circulation. I have not figured out who makes the saucer yet, but when I do I will update!

Thrift store Discovery!

1 04 2008

I went to my usual two local thrift stores and lone behold I discovered one I have never been to and it was on the same street. It is the Humane Society thrift store, meaning that all of the proceeds go to profit the organization. Was I ever impressed, I got the best stuff I have found all month!

 hpim0964.jpg

The first thing was he most beautiful pair of white real leather sandals with a small heal, they are absolutely fabulous! The detail made me oh so happy. I will post a picture a little later this evening as I am at work on my work computer. I also got two necklaces, both were made of beads. One was modern ans very cute for spring, the colors were purple, pink, and pale blue, very nice.

hpim0957.jpgThe other is my favoriate, I am sure it is vintage and I am wearing it as I type this. The detail is astounding. It is also made of beads and the intricate detail made of silver..or pewter that connects the beads is the part of the necklace that I love the most.

I got Ethan 4 movies. And I just have to explain why got him, yey again more movies. Ethan is convinced that I completely control the television and that if he wants to watch a particular show he assumes that mama can make it happen. Well unfortunately that is not the case and I can not control the television line up for obvious reasons. Oh no mommy is not the God that my baby thinks I am and he wants to watch Dora the Explorer! What is a mama to do, well I’ll tell ya what this mama did. Instead of turning this into an educational experience and teaching Ethan that mommy is not God and does not control the universe, I changed the subjest got him off Dora, and two days later i buy him two dora VHS movies. What can I say, I am God again…..at least in my babies eyes.

Love her!

17 03 2008

hpim0903.jpghpim0902.jpg I found this absolutely beautiful little African American handmade doll in a second hand store called second helpings. I saw her on a little shelf above a bunch of clothes and she was asking me to take her home. So I paid for her and then left with the buzz of getting something new. I have a wooden handmade chair. It came with a little bear I once got as a gift and it fit the doll perfectly so that is what I put her in. Ethan likes to p>
take her and put her in and out, in and out of the chair and I think that it’s rather cute.</

More Pooh

12 03 2008

hpim0882.jpghpim0881.jpgI went into a local thrift store called horizons of Friendship yesterday and I came across these great winnie the pooh wooden chairs, they are so great. Ethan adores them and they even have storage compartments underneath the seat area. They were six dollars, really ya cannot beat that and what is even greater: all money collected at Horizons of Friendship goes right back into the community, for things like the womans shelter and emergency aid for people in need. Anyone local has to stop in at this store, you are sure to find a treasure!

Love this!

11 03 2008

hpim0842.jpgI got these gorgeous and very yummy panels, that I am tempted to cut and make pillows with, but I may just leave them as is and hang them in my bedroom, they are the exact size for all of the windows in my home. I also got this duvet cover that is definately vintage it is very heavy cotton, and I love it, I think that I may use it on my bed and get a duvet for inside, then it will really match the new panels, both of these items I got from a local thrift store called: “My Second Closet”.

Thrifting: post one.

10 03 2008

I went to a few second hand stores today on my lunch break, I browsed around for a short time and found a few great objects. I found a beautiful dinner ware set, although I did not find the bowls, otherwise it’s a complete set! The best part is that I live in a small town and the woman who works there is going to keep her eye out and find the matching bowls! Today was not so bad for a Monday!

hpim0860.jpghpim0856.jpghpim0853.jpghpim0851.jpg

I also got the most beautiful vintage dress shirt, the color is a very pale yellw and it has the most lovely ribbon detail on the front and the cutest ruffle. I know it is hard to see just how great this find is, but I can assure you it is fabulous!
